24 Hour Filming Day

Saturday March 1st was a busy day for the Production Staff at Step One Films. For Our 24 hour film fest entry, we were required to entirely shoot and edit a 3min film within one day. Thankfully, we were able to do some preproduction, storyboarding, and planning legally ahead of time. The week prior to filming day we had a planning meeting. We held auditions, and brainstormed about locations, props and equipment. We also discussed how we could adapt our script into a trailer while leaving room for the unknown elements that the contest would require us to include on the day of the competition.

Friday night several of us stayed up late finishing preparations. Saturday was an early morning for most of us. We started out picking up our film equipment at 6am and were in the thick of brainstorming final story options by 7. At 8am our actors for the first scene had arrived and we started filming. From then on it was a non stop day. At 1pm our extras showed up and we shot the bus station scenes. We had finished filming by about 6pm and took a break for dinner at a local Mexican restaurant. By that point we were all a bit frazzled and it felt really good sit down and enjoy a meal. After dinner we started editing, creating graphics, and blending images with sound. Due to some technical difficulties it took us a little longer than we had expected. However we successfully submitted the final cut of the trailer at 2:30am, with several hours to spare.

All things considered the day went extremely well, and we are already looking forward to working on the full length (15-20min) film.

Father Who Art -- Trailer

At the beginning of January 2008, Step One Films began preproduction of "Father Who Art"; a short 15-20 min film. In order to build momentum and gain experience for this project, we entered a 24 hour christian film fest. (www.christianfilmmakers.org/contest) The following video is our entry for that contest. Our full length movie is scheduled to be finished fall of 2008. Enjoy!
